From counting sea stars to studying sandy beach ecosystems, students participating in LiMPETS are getting hands-on experience doing real coastal science. A recent evaluation analyzing ten years of teacher surveys shows just how impactful the program has been: 97% of teachers reported a positive experience, and more than 90% reported increased student interest in marine science and stronger connections to their local coast. Students also reported high levels of enjoyment and a better understanding of how local actions impact ocean health – building skills and stewardship that last well beyond the field trip.
