Research Articles

Reading and understanding a scientific article is a complex task. Here are a few tips and resources to help you get started.

It seems counter-intuitive, but reading an article from start to finish is not the best strategy. Read the ABSTRACT and the DISCUSSION (aka Conclusion) section first. Then decide if it is relevant enough to keep reading. If so, read the INTRODUCTION next. Skim the RESULTS, taking time to look carefully at the graphs. Skim the METHODS. And finally, take NOTES while you are reading. Taking notes will not only help you clarify your thoughts, it will also save you a lot of time.

Below, you will find a list of research articles that focus on issues, topics and trends relevant to the LiMPETS monitoring programs. Use the Notes Page to help keep track of the author’s main points and findings.
